Filmed and directed by Grade 7/8 students at Dakota Plains School, Waunspe is a heartfelt short documentary that follows three generations of the Smoke family, Elder Dawn, her son Chief Smoke, and granddaughter Sophia, as they reflect on the importance of Dakota pride, language, and cultural teachings. Through intimate conversations and shared moments, the film captures a family's commitment to ensuring their traditions are carried forward, and celebrates the power of intergenerational knowledge in keeping Indigenous identity alive
