The IFFA kinosêw Lab: Unreal Engine Foundations Program is an intensive, hands-on training opportunity for Indigenous artists and storytellers who want to explore digital world-building, virtual production, and cinematic storytelling using Unreal Engine.
Delivered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Treaty One Territory, this program introduces participants to the same real-time 3D tools used in video games, immersive media, and virtual film sets such as The Mandalorian.
This free program is designed to remove barriers to entry and support Indigenous creatives in developing future-ready digital skills.
Format: Five-day, in-person training at Studio Lab xR
Location: Winnipeg, MB (Treaty One Territory)
Eligibility: Indigenous artists & creators (ages 18–30)
Cost: Free
Support Provided: Travel, hotel, and per diem
Participants will gain foundational skills in Unreal Engine while exploring how Indigenous storytelling can live within emerging digital spaces.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
What PARTICIPANTS WILL Learn?
Participants will be introduced to Unreal Engine through practical, beginner-friendly sessions focused on:
- World-building & digital environments
- Lighting, cameras, and animation basics
- Cinematic storytelling & virtual production workflows
- Creative pipelines used in film, games, and immersive media
No prior Unreal Engine experience is required.
